BARR/PRINT to Metacode booklet

1. Introduction

This booklet describes BARR/PRINT to Metacode, an optional software package used with BARR/SPOOL (DOS or Windows NT). BARR/PRINT to Metacode easily integrates with the Barr Enterprise Print Server to enable printing from computers to high-end Xerox printers by generating Windows -based application formats corresponding to Xerox Metacode and LCDS (Line Conditioned Data Stream) formats. When used with Barr software, the BARR/PRINT to Metacode ports support printing in the following environments:

BARR/PRINT to Metacode is installed on the client computer using the Microsoft Windows 95 operating system, and functions as a printer driver to allow printing from any Windows application (such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc.). Xerox high-volume, channel-attached printers communicate through the BARR/PRINT to Metacode ports. The software interprets native Windows Graphical Device Interface (GDI) formats and transforms them into Metacode data on the fly, shielding the user from the inner workings of the process. The Metacode data is generally sent to a Barr print server.

When used with a Barr print server, BARR/PRINT to Metacode lets you print from Windows-based applications to high-volume Xerox printers.

BARR/PRINT to Metacode provides key features such as support for collating, copy count, duplex printing, and print orientations. Other features of BARR/PRINT to Metacode include the ability to change the Job Source Language (JSL) before sending files to the printer, to send embedded DJDE commands to the printer, and to define custom print job formats. The software even supports the use of the new OSS 5.0 colors in highlight printers. Administrators will like the way the product maximizes investments in existing production printers and network assets.
