Receiving documents from BARR/PRINT CHANNEL

Channel Input Port is available for customers using the BARR/PRINT CHANNEL product, who want to send documents to the Spool Window. BARR/PRINT CHANNEL is a standalone product that must be purchased separately.

Channel Input Port is used to receive documents from BARR/PRINT CHANNEL. BARR/PRINT CHANNEL can be installed on the Barr Enterprise Print Server computer or a different computer. The only configuration necessary is matching the port number in Channel Input Port to the one used in BARR/PRINT CHANNEL. When the document is received, it automatically displays in the Spool Window. The document properties, such as format, attributes, and header information are preserved.

If an end of job timeout is specified in BARR/PRINT CHANNEL, that timeout period will apply to the Channel Input Port. If BARR/PRINT CHANNEL does not receive print data within the specified length of time, BARR/PRINT CHANNEL will assume that the host is done sending, and the connection will close.

  1. Open the Channel Input Port dialog box by selecting Tools | Channel Input Port on the Spool Window menu bar.

  2. Click Add to add a port number for receiving documents from BARR/PRINT CHANNEL. The port number you add must match the one used in BARR/PRINT CHANNEL. By default, the first port number is 2277 and all subsequent port numbers will increment by 1. Because BARR/PRINT CHANNEL connections can be configured to use the same port number, you can have multiple BARR/PRINT CHANNEL connections routing documents to one Channel Input Port port number.

  3. If necessary, select Perform tracing to trace the port number. Tracing may cause performance degradation and should only be used for troubleshooting purposes. The trace results are saved to a text file named PortPortNumber.txt. By default, the file will be saved in the \\Program Files\Common Files\Barr\Trace folder.

  4. Click OK. The port number now displays in the port list. The port is now configured to receive documents from BARR/PRINT CHANNEL. A magnifying glass icon displays in the first column if tracing is being performed on the port.
