Selecting the ASCII printer type

Printers

When you define a printer that uses the Barr ASCII printer driver, you must choose the printer type. This enables the Barr software to send printer commands to the printer.

For most selections, the Barr software automatically sets lines-per-form and lines-per-inch on the printer, so you do not have to adjust these settings manually. See the Lines-per-form and lines-per-inch settings topic for a description of the settings provided by the Barr software.

The printer type selections fall into four categories.

Complete the following steps.

  1. Open the Printers folder, if is not already displayed.

  2. Right-click the printer you just defined using the Barr ASCII printer driver and select Properties.

  3. From the printer Properties dialog box, select the Device Settings tab.

  4. Select Printer Type in the Printer Driver Device Settings tree. If your line printer is not in the Printer Types list, check the Printer control codes table for a compatible selection. Compare the control codes in the table to the control codes listed in your printer manual to determine if one of the selections will work.

  5. Click OK.
