Barr Systems supports 9700 data streams (SNA Character Stream, SCS) to the Xerox 4235 in XPPM mode. Using this feature, EBCDIC, graphics, and Metacode intended for channel-attached laser printers can be directed through the parallel port to the Xerox 4235 printer. Use the steps outlined below to configure the Barr product and the Xerox 4235. The Xerox information is taken from the 4235 LPS XPPM PDL/DJDE Reference. The printer may also be used in XDPM mode to receive XES files.
Go to the Installation Description screen.
Select Devices and Printers. Make sure the LPT port is enabled. Then select Miscellaneous printer options, and set Printer performance optimized? to No.
Select Assign
Devices. Select the source that will be used for routing the print
data (i.e., PR1
LPT1). After assigning this device, select Receive
mode from the menu at the bottom of the screen. Then select Transparent
as the receive mode. An asterisk should appear after your printer on the
Assign
Devices screen.
Return to the Installation Description screen and select Exit and Save Changes.
Load the System Configuration menu. Select the first or second interface as necessary to be Parallel; XPPM; Line Printer Mode. After setting the interface, press ENTER to set the options for the interface. Select Character Code and select EBCDIC. Exit and save changes.
Load the User Services menu. Select Printer Options. Select XPPM and enable the following printer options:
|
EBCDIC Parallel Meta / GHO enabler - IB: |
|
Contiguous DJDE Page Processing - MP: |
|
Font Positioning - LP: |
|
Apply Begin and End Page DJDES - AM: |
Exit and save changes.
In XPPM mode, the Xerox 4235 expects to receive a hex 35 (SCS transparency code) followed by a count byte of how much data is protected by transparency. It must receive this byte or XPPM will process the data incorrectly. The Barr transparency mode is the only mode that will pass the 35 to the printer. At the JES2 host, TRANS=No must also be set.
The 4235 supports one parallel interface for XPPM mode. A serial interface can be used to print XDPM mode (ASCII). This will allow LAN data to print at the same time as a 9700 stream.
The 4235 supports only a SUBSET of 9700 control characters. These are:
