BARR/PRINT to Metacode booklet

5. Configure Barr Enterprise Print Server for Network Printing

BARR/PRINT to Metacode ports support printing from LANs through a shared directory using Barr Enterprise Print Server. When printing from a shared directory, data is sent to a specified DOS directory that is usually located on another computer connected to the LAN. Barr Enterprise Print Server can be configured to routinely monitor the directory and send the print jobs to the printer.

If you are adding files from a network, set the Print Utility service to log in as a user rather than a system account. Refer to the online help topic Setting up a network connection for more information.

Follow these steps to configure Barr Enterprise Print Server for LAN printing.

  1. Open the Print Utility.

  2. From the Print Utility Spooling Controls tab, click Add.

  3. Navigate to the folder where the Metacode files are stored. This folder name must match the name you specified in the Output directory field when you added the Metacode shared directory port (see chapter 3). Click OK. The Choose Type of Files dialog box displays.

  4. Under Input format, choose Barr DOS with headers (ASCII or S/370). If needed, select to use an output statement or a code page.

  5. Click OK. The Spooling Configuration dialog box displays.

  6. Select the Disposition and Document Attributes. Click OK to return to the Spooling Controls tab.

  7. To specify the spooling interval, select the Check this folder every box and enter the time interval. Select either Seconds or Minutes for the interval units.

  8. Select Check subfolders as well to check the subfolders for automatic spooling.

  9. Under Control File, click Save As to save the control file.
