Overview

Spool Window

The Spool Window is the main window for the Barr Enterprise Print Server. The top section of the Spool Window contains a list of user-defined spool printers. The bottom section lists the documents to be processed. The spool maintains documents in an internal Barr-defined format. Documents are processed according to the sort order.

The spool can print or route a document as soon as the document and intended spool printer are in the Ready state, and the routing criteria matches. If you enable the Retain feature, documents are removed from the spool list and copied to the Retain folder after they print or you delete them.

The Spool Window’s many features make it easy to manage documents. The features you are able to use depend on the BARR/SPOOL user access rights assigned to you by your system administrator.

Manage the display

You can do several things to manage the display from the Spool Window.

Manage printing and routing

You can do several things to manage printing and routing with the click of a toolbar button.

Print to a specific printer

Choose from three ways to send a document to a specific printer. Document attributes and printer attributes must match for these methods to work.

Change attribute values

You can modify printer and document attribute values from the Spool Window by clicking a column and typing over the value, or by right-clicking and selecting a new value.

Operate the spool without displaying the Spool Window

Spool operation is independent of the Spool Window display. When you do not need to monitor spool activity, you can exit the Spool Window and the spool will continue to operate in the background.
