Writing to disk

Printers

Complete the following steps to write to a disk. The options you specify for a spool printer affect all documents you send to it.

To add a Windows printer, you must be a member of the Administrators group. If you are using Windows 2000, you can also be a member of the Printer Operators or Server Operators group or a Power User on a workstation.

  1. Open the Configuration Utility.

  2. From the Spool Printers tab, click Add. The Printer Properties dialog box displays.

  3. In the Name box, enter a printer name. This name displays in the Spool Window’s printer list and is called the spool printer. The printer name cannot contain a backslash '\'.

  4. Under Physical printer, select New. From the drop-down list, select Write to disk and click OK. A message box will display when the printer has been successfully created.

  5. Before using the printer, you must configure the port. Click Modify Port to display the File Port Configuration tab pages.

  1. Select the File Options tab and specify the name to assign the file.

  3. When you finish configuring the port, click OK. This adds the printer and returns you to the Printer Properties dialog box so you can configure the spool printer.

  1. Under Options, click Overlays to setup overlays (optional). When you configure the Barr File port and select a format with a header, the overlay will be applied after the header and before the data. If you choose the Barr archive format, all necessary overlays and FCB resources must be available on the receiving BARR/SPOOL.

  2. Click Advanced. The Advanced Printer Options dialog box displays. Review the following table to select the required and desired options.
